RESYST's Co-Research Director, Kara Hanson, was elected with 62% of the vote in the final round and was the only individual in the first round to achieve more than 100 first-choice votes, with 171 votes.
Kara has been a member of iHEA since 1999 and was on the scientific comittee for the 2017 conference. In her statement for the election Kara outlined the issues that she would champion as Director, including:
- Structuring the congress to enable greater interaction among researchers work on high, emerging and low-income settings. Working towards identifying points of intersections to facilitate greater exchange across geographies.
- Member benefits between congresses, enhancing recent initiatives to refresh member services.
- Ensuring that board composiion reflects the geographic diversity of its members.
- Maximising the synergies between the core central activities and regional association events.
"iHEA's mission is to increase communication among health economists, foster a higher standad of debate in the application of economics to health and health care systems, and assist youn researchers at the start of their careers."
