This presentation was given by Jane Doherty at the International Health Economics Association (iHEA) World Congress in Boston, in July 2017.
The presentation includes findings from RESYST's research investigating how governments can generate more of their own national resources for health and reduce their dependence on donor funding, which can be both unstable and unsustainable. It covers three key questions:
- How did South Africa achieve improved tax collection?
- Which sectors benefited from improved fiscal space?
- What explains the trends in the fiscal space for health?
The session was chaired by Aparnaa Somanathan, Human Development Program Leader at the World Bank.
