Sassy Molyneux has a PhD in behavioural studies. She is employed by Oxford University and has been working as part of the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya, since 1994, and currently chairs of the Health Systems Research group in Kilifi.
Sassy's research work has focused on two main areas: the interface between health systems and households (including exploring household treatment seeking behavior, gender relations and affordability of health care); and the interface between health researchers and communities (including informed consent, community engagement, payments and benefits for research participants and communities, and social science ethics).
Her current main focus is her Wellcome Trust fellowship on community accountability; producing new thinking, evidence and recommendations around strengthening community involvement in biomedical research and health delivery in sub-Saharan Africa.
Future research will take forwards her interest in internal accountability mechanisms; exploring formal policies and processes and how these are implemented and transformed in practice by actors in health and research systems.
