Overview
RESYST is supporting a small scale study in two health centres in each of five selected districts, to track the implementation and perceived impact of the Health Sector Services Fund (HSSF) to date in these health centres. This research forms part of a wider evaluation of Direct Facility Funding through HSSF in Kenya’s Health Centres and Dispensaries.
Key findings
The provision of (small amounts of) funds directly to primary health facilities can have strong and broad positive impacts on quality of care, staff motivation, patient satisfaction and maintenance of facilities.
In Kenya, there are limits to the achievements of this financing intervention in the context of wider challenges including unreliable drug supplies, poor access to emergency transportation and shortages of qualified staff.
